Mixed Emotions & Rave Reviews

After visiting the bank yesterday I was stopped on my local High Street by a lady named Liz who told me that she had recently read my book and that she just wanted to let me know that she’d found it to be a ‘real page-turner’ and the story had ‘moved her to tears’ at several points.

As I free-wheel towards my 50th birthday, I find myself looking back on times gone by more & more and those military days remembered in ‘It’s Only Pain’ can feel like a different life altogether on occasion. On other days however, the mixed emotions and camaraderie feel like it was like yesterday!

They were the most exhilarating, harrowing, happy, petrifying, beguiling and adrenaline pumped days of my life. I am very glad to have been able to be part of those times in Africa, incredibly sad to have lost so many close friends and extremely grateful for the fact that I survived to tell the tale. Nostalgia and Bulldogs

So, the New Year is off with a ‘bang’ and I have been forced to delve into the past in preparation for my upcoming speaking events in 2015.

Going through some old records (getting very nostalgic) I noticed that 26 years ago today I began training camp for my crack at the British Middleweight Title. On 25th February 1989 on a very cold and wet Saturday night in Manchester I fought John ‘The Bulldog’ Smith. The guy was as tough as old boots with a massive heart and he would never take a backwards step!

I managed to break my left hand in Round 1 to add to my problems but I was not going to give up my chance of a British Title and after a bit of a slug fest I managed to land a telling kick for a 5th Round KO to gain my first title and dream of being British Champion. Continue reading

Combat Expert Holds Book Signing At Sixways

Worcester Warriors Book Signing

One of the UK’s leading combat and fitness experts will be holding a book signing before tomorrow’s match with Harlequins.

Andy Hopwood will be signing copies of his book It’s Only Pain, a truly gripping and often funny story of naivety, family differences, Special Forces operations and Guerrilla warfare.

Andy will be signing books from 1pm in the Coliseum and all profits from the event will be going to the charity Combat Stress.

**Press Release** 10 Years and Still Kicking!

This Saturday (13th April 2013) Hopwood Fighting Fit in Aston Fields, Bromsgrove will be holding a charity open day to celebrate the Martial Arts and Fitness Centre’s 10th anniversary.

Director Sharon Hopwood says:

The day will be a celebration of all that we do here; when it comes to personal fitness and self defence we help so many people, from every walk of life, to get the results they never thought possible. We work with all levels of experience – from Premier League Footballers and elite athletes through to complete novices. The open day allows everybody to pop along and have a go for themselves while raising money for a great cause.
